ARMY 2021: Sahasra Chandi Maha Yajnam (12 Days)

Sri Chandi Homam is a sacred fire prayer performed to invoke the blessings of Goddess Chandi – the fierce and powerful form of Goddess Shakti. She is the primeval energy and is responsible for the creation, sustenance, and destruction of this entire universe. She is hailed as the sum total of the energies of all lives in this universe. According to the sacred text, Devi Mahatmyam, she is portrayed with eighteen arms, each holding a different weapon to ward off all the negativities and guard her beloved devotees.

Goddess Chandi is an embodiment of power and all the divine forces, who safeguards you from evil forces and perfects your mind and body. By worshiping the Universal Mother through this sacred fire prayer, you can  remove negative forces such as evil eye, curses, and obstacles and be bestowed with lasting health, wealth and prosperity.

Three hundred and fifty ritwiks will complete a total of 10,000 repetitions of Sri Devi Mahatmyam (Durga Saptasathi) throughout the 11 day Ati Rudram Maha Yajnam event. For each set 1000 repetitions, a Sri Chandi homam will be performed. In addition, abhishekam and 10,000 Ksheera Tharpanas will be performed daily to Sri Chandika Parameshwari for 11 days. On the twelfth and final day a Sahasra Chandi homam will be performed with final Maha Purnahuti.

Sahasra Chandi Maha Yajnam requires performance of minimum of 1000 Durga Saptasathi (Devi Mahatmyam) Paarayanams, 100 Durga Saptasathi Homams, 1,000,000 Navakshari Japam, 100,000 Ahutis of Navakshari Mula Mantra, and detailed performance of many other rituals.

Sri Devi Mahatmyam text is an excerpt of 700 shlokas taken from the Markandeya Purana and are seen as equal to their Vedas in their potency The 700 shlokas consist of 13 chapters, which are further consolidated into 3 portions called Prathama Charitram (1st portion called the "1st section" consisting of the 1st chapter), Madhyama Charitram (2nd portion called the "middle section" consisting of chapters 2-4) and Uttama Charitram (3rd portion called the "ideal section" consisting of chapters 5-13). These 13 chapters are preceded by a few chapters called "Poorvangam" that comprise of mainly Devi Kavacham, Argala Stothram, Keelakam and Tantrokta Ratri suktam. Depending on which tradition is followed, Siddha Kunjika Stothram is added too - either at the beginning or at the conclusion of Sri Devi Mahatmyam. Furthermore, there are additional chapters known as Hridayam, Dalam and Namani, etc., and when chanted, Devi Mahatmyam is referred to as "Navangam".

For the sake of destroying every kind of painful situation, negative energy and doshas, there is no Devi yajnam more powerful than Sri Sahasra Chandi homa. When this great offering is performed during Ati Rudram, the divine energy is multiplied millions of times and Devi showers Her supreme blessings on all for divine peace, joy, love and every kind of wealth.
