Bana-Linga – Quartz Crystal

A Quartz Crystal Bana Linga made from clear quartz is a Shiva Linga carved from sphatika (crystal/quartz). In Hindu tradition, a Sphatika Linga has a particularly beautiful symbolism because its clarity, purity and translucence naturally lend themselves to contemplation of Shiva as pure, unconditioned consciousness.

Significance & Spiritual Meaning: A Sphatika Linga is carved from clear quartz and represents pure, unconditioned consciousness. Just as pure crystal remains clear regardless of what reflects within it, pure awareness remains unchanged by thoughts and emotions. Meditation upon the Linga helps guide the aspirant from the changing external world toward changeless inner awareness.

Benefits of Daily Practice: Regular worship and contemplation can help foster:

  - Greater concentration and a quieter mind
  - Increased devotional awareness and discipline
  - A stronger habit of turning inward

Recommended Daily Practice & Abhishekam

1.  Preparation: After bathing, sit quietly before the Linga, light a lamp, and offer a flower or Bilva leaf.
2.  Abhishekam: Perform a simple offering using pure water. While pouring water, inwardly surrender anger, fear, ego, and mental disturbances. You may also offer milk, incense, and naivedyam according to your established practice.
3.  Special Occasions: On Mondays, Pradosham, and Maha Shivaratri, consider performing a longer abhishekam alongside 108 repetitions of Om Namah Shivaya.

Do's and Don'ts

  - Do: Keep the Linga clean, approach it with personal hygiene, maintain a simple and consistent practice, and treat it reverentially to cultivate humility and surrender.
  - Don't: Use harsh chemical cleaners, worry about others touching it, frequently relocate it, look to it for supernatural powers, or over-interpret physical sensations and dreams.

Guidance During Menstruation

  - Physical Observances: In accordance with traditional principles of energy flow (apana vayu), refrain from handling the Linga, conducting physical puja, or performing abhishekam during this time. Physical worship may resume after your purification bath.
  - Internal Devotion: Maintain your practice internally through Manasika Puja (mental worship), mental japa (chanting Om Namah Shivaya internally), meditation from a distance, and inward prayer.
