1. Preparation: After bathing, place the Linga in a clean, peaceful, and elevated space.
2. Offerings: Offer a lamp, flowers, or bilva leaves, and perform a simple water abhishekam.
3. Chanting: Recite the mantra ॐ नमः शिवाय (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) 11, 27, 54, or 108 times, followed by a few minutes of silent meditation. The Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra may also be recited if you are accustomed to the practice.
4. Sacred Days: Mondays, Pradosham, and Maha Shivaratri are especially auspicious for Shiva worship, additional japa, meditation, and abhishekam.

Do’s & Don’ts

- Do: Keep the Linga clean and handle it with reverence. Offer water abhishekam, flowers, bilva leaves, lamps, and incense according to your tradition.
- Don't: Avoid placing a worshipped Linga on the floor, near shoes, in bathrooms, or among clutter. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Perspective: Avoid casual handling, excessive concern about "losing its energy," or seeking supernatural powers and predictions through the gemstone. True spiritual progress is reflected through greater peace, compassion, humility, purity, equanimity, selflessness, and decreasing identification with the ego.

Traditional Observances & Guidance

1. Energy Principles: Menstruation is traditionally recognized as a period of ashauca (downward-moving apana energy). To protect individual energy and preserve the consecrated space, refrain from touching the main sacred items during this time.
2. Physical Observances: Refrain from handling the Linga, performing abhishekam, changing altar objects, or conducting formal physical puja. Resume physical worship after the traditional purification bath. Prioritize rest, hygiene, and inner intention.
3. Internal Devotion: Maintain your practice through Manasika Puja (mental worship, listening to mantras, and distant meditation), Mental Japa (internal repetition of "Om Namah Shivaya"), and continuous inward prayer.

The Highest Purpose: External sacred objects serve to support sadhana and the transformation of consciousness. Devotees may surrender their worship at the Guru's Divine Lotus Feet, praying for purity of thought, selflessness, compassion toward all beings, and unwavering remembrance of the Divine. Ultimately, the highest offering to Shiva is the surrender of the ego, leading to the recognition of the Shiva consciousness within.
