Learn Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram

The Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram is a powerfully rhythmic, 21 verse hymn composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya that celebrates the fierce victory of goddess Durga over the shape shifting buffalo demon, Mahishasura.

Famous for its unique, thunderous meter (Aigiri Nandini Nanditha Medhini), the stotram mimics the literal, auditory clashing of weapons and the victorious dance of the Divine Mother on the battlefield. Devotionally, the hymn is not just a retelling of a mythological battle, but a deep spiritual metaphor for internal warfare.

The outer demons represent the inner psychological toxins of ego, anger, and delusion, which the Goddess ruthlessly destroys with her grace. Regularly chanting or listening to its rapid, drum-like cadence is believed to instantly dispel fear, inject raw courage, and awaken an unstoppable force of positive energy within the mind.

In this learning CD, Amma teaches the pronunciation of each word of Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram, Sri Sakti Pitha Stotram, and Sri Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotram, so that listeners can easily follow along and learn. Sri Mahishasura Mardini Stotram contains all the vital sound energies of the Chandi Saptasati, one of the most powerful Devi stotras.

Sri Adi Sankaracharya, who knew that most people do not have the time or ability to chant the Chandi Saptasati, composed this powerful stotram so that everyone can receive the same benefits of chanting the Chandi in its entirety. Amma has said that chanting the twenty verses of this stotram is equal to chanting all 700 verses of Sri Chandi Saptasati. Sri Ashtadasa Maha Sakti Pitha Stotram contains the names and locations of the eighteen most important places on Earth containing the energy of Divine Mother.

Chanting these names gives one the blessings of actually visiting the natural energy spots. Sri Dwadasa Jyotirlinga Stotram contains the names and locations of the twelve self-born (swayambhu) forms of Lord Siva.  A recording of Srimati Chandrika singing these powerful stotras in her divinely sweet voice is also included in the CD. Amma sings the Sakti Pitha and Dwadasa Jyotirlinga stotras.
