Ashta Gandham – fragrant Powder

Ashtagandha is a very fragrant powder used in rituals and fire ceremonies. “Ashta” means “eight,” and “gandha” means “fragrance,” so Ashtagandha is a mixture of eight different fragrant substances –– sandalwood, agar, camphor, glandular saffron, gorochan, jatamansi and lohbaan.​ 
Ashtagandha is believed to have spiritual and symbolic significance, to invoke divine blessings and protection from the deity being worshiped. Ashtagandha ​powder is burned a​s a mark of commencing the ritual or sacred ceremony to purify and cleanse the air  and  negate the elements of Jyeshta Devi, inviting Sri lakshmi Devi for prosperity and well being the household.
