Lord Vishnu incarnated as Lord Narasimha in the half-lion and half-man form in order to suppress the pride and ego of King Hiranyakashipu, who harassed people to worship him instead of God. The king was taught a lesson by his own son, Prahalad, who worshipped Lord Vishnu all the time. His tyranny was brought to an end by Lord Narasimha.
